Universal Serial Bus
USB, or Universal Serial Bus, is a stanard to interface devices. USB was originally created for computers, such as PCs and the Apple Macintosh; however, through growing success and popularity the USB standard is now used on many consumer electronics such as: video game consoles, PDAs, cellphones, MP3 players, portable memory devices, and even televisions. The standard specified that you can daisy-chain up to 127 USB devices together through a limit of 5 levels of "tree-branching".

Here are a few common USB questions:
How long of a cable can I use to connect my device?
The USB specification limits the length of a cable between full speed devices to 5 meters; however, for a low speed device the limit is 3 meters.
How far away from a PC can I put a USB device?
With the maximum of 5 hubs connected with 5m cables and a 5m cable going to your full speed device, this will give you 30m of cable; however, with a low speed device, you will be able to get a range up to 27m. For safety you should estimate that, best case, you will get about 80 feet.
